Description

A very sweet, unusually small 18th century silver pill or snuff box of oval shape with hinged cover with inset hinge. The cover and sides with bright cut hand engraved decoration and a small shield shaped cartouche to the cover engraved with the original owner's initials AR. Hallmarked inside for Birmingham 1791, maker Samuel Pemberton, a specialist maker of very fine quality small pieces such as nutmeg graters, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, etc.

It measures 3.5cm (1 3/8") long by 2.2cm (7/8") wide and 0.9cm (3/8") deep. It weighs 10g / 0.3ozt.

In excellent condition with no damage or repair and very minor handling wear, the decoration and hallmarks are lovely and crisp. The hinge is excellent and the cover closes snugly.
