Georgian Silver Hester Bateman Port Wine Label


Description
A fine late 18th century curved silver crescent shaped decanter label with gadrooned style edging, rising up and over an oval cartouche with pierced detail to the sides and surmounted with a stylised spiral knot. Engraved for PORT with berried foliage either side. The cartouche is finely engraved with a family crest of a right (dexter) forearm, in armour, holding a broken tilting spear.Hallmarks to the reverse, just the lion passant and maker initials for Hester Bateman of the period c.1778-1790.
It measures 4.8cm (1 7/8") wide by 3.8cm (1 1/2") high weighs 9g / 0.3ozt.
In superb condition with no damage or repair and minimal handling wear.
