Description

A fine quality pair of Minton porcelain figural candlesticks of a male fruit seller and his female flower seller companion. Stood on unusual rococo style shaped bases with ornate candle sticks modelled as bundles of reeds and bulrushes and finishing with scrolled decoration around the sconces. Decorated in a rich puce pink enamel with small white reserved areas and all highlighted with gilding. The figures are very well modelled, with very detailed work to the fruit and flowers and decorated in Minton's typical style in a kaleidoscope of colours with an extraordinary level of detail to the patterned fabrics no manufacturer put more time and effort into their figure decoration than Minton. Model numbers 192. Unmarked, c.1835-1836.

They measure 21.6cm (8 1/2") high and 12cm (4 3/4") wide.

In very good condition and they display excellently with some areas of high quality, professional repair / restoration: The fruit seller has had a repair to his right wrist. His lady companion has been repaired at the neck and left wrist. There appears to be a small areas of fabrication to the brim of her hat, again very well executed. The candle sconce has possibly been reattached. A few very minor losses to the petals as is common. Otherwise, minimal handling wear to both enamels and gilding.
