Description

Small Prisoner of War work straw-work box with later pad holding child's toy sewing tools. The straw is in pretty good condition with a few minor losses and a couple of small repairs, visible by colour difference. Typical Berlin woolwork pattern to the top which has faded and a striped pattern on the base. The pad in the lid holds toy bone scissors and functioning bone and steel bodkins. Both the hinges and push clasp are working perfectly. It measures just under 4" x 2". It dates from the mid 19thC when former prisoners of war had settled in England and continued making these wares.
