Description

This is a very attractive, circa 1900, Sevres style Jewellery Box or Casket which stands on four cabriole legs. It has a blue ground, with vignettes of courting couples around the front and sides, a floral spray on the back and a large scene of a gallant walking in a garden with his lady, on the lid. The garden has flowering shrubs, trees and a large fountain. The interior of the lid has a spray of flowers with a central rose and the body has a rose roses. We describe it as Sevres style, because we have looked up the mark and it looks similar to the faux Sevres marks, so we prefer to err on the side of caution. It is part transfer, part hand painted, with the gilding and 'jewelling' executed by hand. It has bronze ormolu fittings.
