Description

We are offering for sale this attractive bust of William Shakespeare, 1564-1616, the famous Bard from Stratford on Avon, This painted plaster bust is a copy of the original white marble bust by John Cheere 1709-1787, which was acquired by George IV and has been housed in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle for the last one hundred years.

Shakespeare is depicted as a relatively young man with moustache and neatly trimmed beard. His hair is curly and collar length. He is wearing a cloak, over a collared chemise, tied at the neck with a tasselled cord. The bust stands on a circular socle, which is flat at the back, as shown. The base is covered in green baize.

Width: 15 inches - 38cm

Dimensions of base: 18cm wide x 16cm deep

Medium: Painted plaster.

Condition: Very good. In very good condition with only minimal wear.
