We are pleased to offer for sale this unusual Shelley Lustreware Float Bowl or Floating Flower Bowl, from a range of Lustreware introduced in the 1920s by Walter Slater. This range included floating flower bowls, spill vases, ginger jars, clocks etc., and were usually decorated with fish, butterflies, flowers etc., these usually being signed on the base by Walter Slater. We have found several examples of these decorated pieces on the internet, but only one other piece of Lustreware with no decoration, as this one, which is unsigned. This is part of a small collection that we have acquired and will be listing in due course.

Walter Slater joined Shelley as Art Director in 1905, after experience at Minton and Doulton. He succeeded Frederick Rhead, the father of Charlotte Rhead. He retired in 1937.

The Bowl is low and curves in to a smaller rim. The colour is an electric or peacock blue fading up to a pale sea green, with an overlying lustre, like petrol on water. The bowl bears the Shelley shield and Made in England.

Condition: Very good with no chips, cracks or damage.
