Description

A delightful mahogany gossip chair by Wheelers of Arncroach, Fife, attributed to the well-regarded collaborations with Sir Robert Lorimer. The chair features a classically styled back with an open splat and gracefully curved top ends. It stands on square tapering legs joined by an H-stretcher, with an additional cross stretcher to the rear for stability. The drop-in seat pads are upholstered in a chequered fabric—clean, though gently faded with time. Reupholstering could be done with ease to suit any interior scheme, though its current condition retains a pleasing authenticity.

The well-known 'Gossip' chair was a design by Sir Robert Lorimer of Kellie Castle in Scotland and made by William Wheeler of Arncroach in Fife who was both joiner and wheelwright to the Lorimer family.
The Wheelers had many collaborations with Sir Robert Lorimer and executed several of his designs.
