A Vernacular Georgian Elm "Grandfather" Armchair

Photos

Description

A Vernacular Georgian Elm "Grandfather" Armchair with textbook patina, the shaped cresting rail above a four-splat back, out-swept arms and shaped supports, over a well-figured elm seat. Raised on square legs united by stretchers. A fine example in the country Sheraton style, possibly East Anglian, where elm – known as the “queen of English hardwoods” – was widely used.

Circa 1780–1800
