Description

A fine late 19th-century oval mahogany bijouterie table, dating to around 1900, of elegant proportions and refined craftsmanship. The hinged glazed top opens to reveal a velvet-lined interior, ideal for the display of jewellery, small objects or treasured collectibles, while allowing them to be viewed and appreciated from above.

The oval top is set above a finely reeded frieze and raised on slender square-section supports, each subtly carved and terminating in well-modelled lion’s paw feet, lending the table both strength and decorative presence. The legs are united by shaped stretchers and centred by a useful oval under-tier, providing additional display or storage space.

The mahogany has developed a warm, rich patina, beautifully mellowed through age, with good colour and grain throughout. The table stands firmly and presents very well, retaining its original character and charm.

A versatile and decorative piece, equally suited to a drawing room, bedroom or dressing room, and ideal as a bijouterie table, display table or occasional table.
