A fine pair of Regency mahogany library armchairs, dating to circa 1820, beautifully proportioned and richly patinated. Constructed from solid mahogany of excellent colour, these chairs display the restrained elegance and confident craftsmanship characteristic of the Regency period.

Each chair features a gently curved back with brown leather upholstery, framed by decorative brass studding that enhances the clean architectural lines. The generously padded seats and backs offer both comfort and presence, making them as practical as they are decorative. The leather has developed an attractive, mellow tone with age, showing light marks and wear consistent with use, adding to their authentic character.

The arms terminate in finely carved scroll supports, echoed in the shaped front legs, which end in elegant swept feet. Subtle carved detailing to the arm supports and legs provides visual interest without detracting from the refined overall form. The rear legs are splayed for stability, typical of quality Regency seating.

These chairs would have originally been intended for use in a gentleman’s library or study and remain perfectly suited to such a setting today. Equally, they would work beautifully flanking a desk, fireplace or as statement seating in a traditional or country house interior.
