Description

This rare Art Deco ladies' evening purse was made by Mandalian MFG Co. around 100 years ago. It is stamped with the full name on the inside of the clasp.
This fine and stylish example is intricately painted in a rare pattern and colourway. It is in remarkable condition. The finely detailed foliate embossed clasp, as does the carrying chain, retains most of its bright original gilding.

The intricately painted chainmail body of the purse is in lovely condition, with its rare geometric pattern. The lower edge is finished with fine tassels of gilt chain forming a fringe, giving exciting movement to this iconic fashion accessory.

Mandalian MFG Co. was the company that produced these lovely, high quality decadent items.

The founder was a Turkish man named Sahatiel Garabed Mandalian (1869 – 1949). He emigrated from Turkey to America in 1898. He was renowned for being a prolific and successful inventor and set up his company, which produced high quality fashion accessories through the 1920s.

Height excluding chain 19cm x width 10cm x depth 0.8cm
