Description

A rare and good sized early 19th century lithograph in its original mahogany veneer frame dating to around 1840. The inscription at the bottom reads: "Interior of Lyme Regis church, Dorset. To the Revd F P Hodges, DD and the inhabitants and visitors of Lyme Regis and its neighbourhood this plate is respectfully inscribed by their much obliged and humble servant, The Publisher". The lithograph is from an original sketch signed by the artist Harry Burrard Farnall (1802 -1883), first Mayor of Lyme Regis, inspector of the Poor Laws and Colonel of 1st Kent Volunteers. He, like the vicar to which the lithograph is inscribed, was an Oxford man have attended Brasenose.

The vicar, Frederic Parry Hodge was vicar of the parish for 47 years (1833-1880).

The inscription suggests that this particular example may have be a unique example, perhaps meant only for the church.

Slight loss to the veneer in places.
