Description

A late Victorian mahogany and part walnut stationery cabinet with a tambour shutter enclosing eight drawers, each enclosing a clip for holding papers, labelled to the top 'Amberg’s patent cabinet letter file’', and each drawer with 'Amberg's Cabinet Letter File' label for listing drawer contents. Last used in 1931.

Cameron Amberg & Co. was established in 1868 and made its first Cabinet Letter Files in 1875, when they won an award from the American Institute, New York. In 1876 its Cabinet Letter Files were awarded a medal at the Centennial Exposition. By 1893 the company name changed to Amberg Letter & File Co.
