Early 20th C Fairground Board

Photos

Description

A rare fairground rounding board dating to the first quarter of the 20th century originally part a children’s carousel. The board is most likely be the work of Orton & Spooner, Anderson or Savage all of whom were making such fairground pieces at the time. The convex boards would have surrounded the bottom of a carousel. They came from J. Lawson's fairground ride. The original well-patinated paint and some of the original gilt survives. There are losses to the carvings and paint as must be expected from well used and rare items. A length of wood has been added to the backs to allow for wall-hanging but can easily been removed. These are truly special and important pieces of work. We still have some more of the boards.
