Description

A very good Oak Coffer from the 2nd half of the 17th century. It is panelled on all sides, including the back. The front and sides are skilfully and deeply carved with intertwining guilloche. The middle top panel has been repaired, but the panel itself is original (see photograph of the lid interior)
The coffer is fitted with an interior lidded storage box. The feet have lost no height, so the coffer stands high. Iron pin hinges are original. This splendid chest has been lightly used and cared for, and has a fine warm oak colour and original surface. Circa 1680
