Description

Rare 16th Century South Wales Tudor Carved Oak Boarded Chest c1580, the front carved with twin cart wheel cross roundels. The cart wheel cross is a medieval symbol used up until Tudor times, in particular found on the Margam Stones at Margam Abbey in South Wales (reference images 5 and 6)The chest has worn down its sides, the hinges have been replaced and the hasp is lost. Nailed construction. Original lock and plate present. Original lidded till.
