Description

This is a beautiful example of a seventeenth century Florentine walnut carved and inlaid cabinet believed to date from c.1600. The cabinet has two upper drawers above a cupboard with two doors and one shelf incorporating an antique door hook. The cabinet is inlaid with ebony and boxwood parquetry borders, edged with carving and stands on a console base The remains of a typed label attached to the rear of one of the drawers indicates that the cabinet was imported from East Flanders by Barling of Mount Street Limited, of 112, Mount Street, London W1 , Specialists in the Sale of Early Furniture and Works of Art, a dealer well known by collectors, many of whom frequented the area.

This cabinet is largely in wonderful condition for its age. There are some early restorations but they are unobtrusive and commensurate with age. The sledge feet have been replaced with matching solid walnut to maintain stability.
