We have for sale a rather lovely Bloor Derby display plate decorated by James Hill c1815.

This decorative Bloor Derby display decorated by James Hill with a typical Hills flowers design as described by John Haslem in his book The Old Derby China Factory: The Workmen and their Productions, (Published in 1876) consisting of a border with scattered sprigs around a central single rose surrounded by a spray of flowers. The plate also carries the Duesbury II mark to the base as well as Hill's decorators mark, the number 21.

James Hill was born 1791 and was probably apprenticed at Derby somewhere around 1804 to 1806 where he worked until the closure of the Nottingham Road Factory in 1848. He then became a partner in the New King Street porcelain company, where he continued to work until his death in 1854.

The plate is in a very good condition but there is some faint craquelure typical of the Bloor Derby period, some slight surface wear and a couple of small nibbles to the back of the rim. The nibbles are not visible from the front of the plate and are reflected in the price. The plate is 10 inches (25.4cm) in diameter.
