Description

We have for sale a lovely decorative Scottish Edwardian arts and crafts Oak chair by Joseph Johnstone Ltd of Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire, near Glasgow.

This lovely imposing, very attractive and very sturdy quartered oak arts and crafts chair is of a square form consisting of top rail beautifully carved with three art nouveau botanically inspired motifs each of which extend as stems down the length of the three back slats which terminate in a shaped cross rail. The two supports of the back extend from squared finials down towards the seat and then beyond to form swept back back legs. The front are of a square tapered form and that terminate in a squared detail. The underside of the seat frame carries the Registered Design No 460348 dating the chair to 1906. The seat is upholstered in a slightly aged brown leatherette which compliments the chair very well well.

The chair is 42.75 inches (108.5cm) high, 17.5 inches (44.5cm) wide, 16 inches (40.6 cm) deep and is in a very condition other than some aging and a couple of minor marks to the leatherette seat cover.
