Description

We have for sale a rather stunning rococo Coalport porcelain molded comport dating dating to about 1839.

This very attractive rococo molded gilded footed comport is delightfully decorated with a gray boarder around beautifully hand painted central flowers against a white ground. The base of the comport carries the pattern number 4/195 (c1839 - see Coalport & Coalbrookdale Porcelains by Geoffrey A. Godden) and the body of the comport has a duck egg Swansea like translucency. This is hardly surprising seeing as there is growing evidence that the formulation of the Coalport paste was influenced by William Billingsley - see the "The Billingsley Collection Including Derby, Pinxton, Worcester, Swansea, Nantgarw and Coalport" by Morgan Denyer, Rachel Denyer and Howell Edwards,2019, ISBN:9780244159368.

The comport is 9.25 inches (23.5cm) in diameter and is 2. 25 inches (5.7cm) high. The comport is in a very good to excellent condition although there is some slight wear to the gilt around the rim in places.
