Description

We have for sale a very unusual decorative French art nouveau lidded claret jug.

This striking claret is fabricated from copper and glass in a design modeled on a Breton copper and oak cider pitcher. The body has details cut into the glass simulating the vertical staves and also is cut to accommodate copper bands which in turn extend to a copper and wood D handle which in turn extends to an ornate cast iron lid. The handle also has lovely art nouveau detailing to the lower section and the claret jug sits on a copper foot ring. Judging by the patination and accumulation of polish around the joints, the claret jug dates to somewhere around 1900.

The claret jug is approximately 9.5 inches (24cm) high, 5 inches (13cm) wide and is in a very good condition.
