18th Century English Delft Tea Canister

Description

We have the pleasure of being able to offer for sale a charming English tin-glaze blue and white tea canister.

This Liverpool or Bristol tin glaze tea canister is of an incised flask like incised form and decorated cobalt blue on a white ground with an attractive chinoiserie botanical design. The un-glazed base carries a cobalt blue decorators mark in the form of a spade or shovel. Judging by the size of the tea cannister, it probably dates to somewhere around the early to mid 18th century.

The tea canister is 4.5 inches high, 3 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. It is in a good antique condition considering its age, with a few missing flakes and a repair to the rim and a firing crack to the base.
