Description

We have for sale a rare example of a lozenge shaped dessert dish from the Derby Prince of Wales dinner service c1786.

Decorated by William Billingsley with a single pink rose and forget-me-nots. Dawn pink rim, fine gilding and puce mark with the number 65. From a high quality dinner service supplied to the Prince of Wales (later George IV) 1786.

The pattern was used in other dinner services, but in deference to the Prince Regent, with a darker salmon pink border and not the dawn pink border.

The dish is 9 7 1/2 inches (24cm) long and is in an excellent antique condition with no chips cracks or repairs and remarkably little wear to the gilt. The service is illustrated in “William Billingsley” by WD John, plate 28.

This dish is currently being exhibited as part of the selling exhibition of rare Derby, Pinxton, Nantgarw and Swansea porcelain "A journey with William Billingsley" 2016, ISBN: 9783741809903'
