Description

This stunning Victorian silver chatelaine has an embossed pierced clip hallmarked Chester 1901 and was crafted by one of the top silversmiths, Henry Matthews. All five chains are original to the chatelaine. The silver accessories were made in Chester & Birmingham.

The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a wealthy Victorian household. Chatelaines would have been used daily by either the lady of the house or her housekeeper. The chatelaine would have been clipped over the ladies waistband and would have hung down ready to be used.

Each chain is mounted with a useful household appendage and comes with the following silver items:

Vesta Case hallmarked Birmingham 925
Folding Manicure Set hallmarked Birmingham 925
Mirror hallmarked Birmingham 1916
Propelling Pencil hallmarked Chester 1895
Thimble Holder Birmingham 1943 & Thimble Chester 1912

Rare to find, this chatelaine is in very good antique condition. The mirror has minor damage on the inside rim (please see photo).

This fabulous piece will add something very special to any silver collection.
