This hard to find 'William the Hippo' figurine was produced for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Made in Italy of high quality ceramic with hand painted Egyptian themed decorations. Beneath the blue glaze, the body is adorned with lotus flowers, buds and leaves. Marked on the bottom 'MMA' (Metropolitan Museum of Art).This fun vintage piece is a reproduction of 'William' one of The Met's premier artifacts: a brilliant blue faience hippopotamus sculpture of ancient Egyptian origin.
