Description

This elegant Victorian papier-mâché stationery box is a particularly rare one due to its unusual undulating shape. The lid is ornately decorated with foral patterns, gilt accents and heavily inlaid with mother of pearl, shell and abalone.

The box has a hinged lid which lifts to reveal the stationery compartments. The interior is lined in the original Victorian paper with sections used to divide one's cards, envelopes, paper and letters. It has its original lock with working key.

Given the fact that this box is circa 150 years old, it is in good condition and must have been well cared for by the many generations of previous owners. Wear commensurate with age (please see photos).

A rare antique find!
