A lovely example of a vintage hand painted Kokeshi Doll from Japan. The simple brush stroke flowers and stripes are in black/red and the patina of the wood on her body is simply beautiful. The doll is signed by the artist as shown on the base. In the Kokeshi homes these were used as very special ornamental elements, as they were considered a good omen against bad luck. Today the dolls represent affection, love, loyalty, happiness and truth.

Kokeshi dolls look stunning anywhere in the home, either as a single piece or displayed together. These dolls are highly collectable worldwide and especially popular amongst Japanophiles.
