Antique 'Amherst' Ironstone Bowl

Photos

Description

A rare hand painted pedestal footed bowl. This antique ironstone piece is decorated in an oriental pattern, stamped and marked with the Amherst Japan pattern "1423". This pattern was named after Lord William Pitt Amherst 1773-1857, who was the 1st Earl Amherst, a British politician and the Governor General of India from 1823-1828.

The gold gilding is thick and rich on all edges. The condition is very good with no chips, cracks or restoration. This commanding Victorian bowl would look stunning in the centre of any table.
