Description

A handsome 19th century English pine barrel back settle, with a gently curved form with a planked back and shaped sides and arms that enclose the single plank seat.
The settle has been dry scraped and is in an honest untouched state with no wax or stain applied.
Originally made to sit near the fireside in taverns or a farmhouse kitchens, the full length boarded back was designed to reduce a draft to the back and legs.
This charming rustic piece will look wonderful in any room and would suit a country home well, but might also work in a traditional pub, a tea shop or restaurant as a piece of traditional seating with character.

Dating to the 19th century, this is made of pine and originates from England.

In good age related condition. The moulding at the base on the right side is pulling away at the back, and there is no matching moulding remaining on the left side. There are some minor signs of historical woodworm. Overall, it is a sturdy piece which has the rustic charm of long use.
