Description

A rustic late 18th century oak chair, this primitive piece is a little bit quirky. It has a pierced carved back with patterns in an hourglass style shape. The seat has a shallow depth, which will allow it to fit into a relatively narrow space, perhaps a hallway for using as a seat when putting on shoes. It is possible that this chair was originally constructed from previously used pieces, since the right and left arms are not symmetrical. On the left, the arm has a lengthwise step underneath which is not present on the right side, and the outside of the end has a carved pattern which is again not present on the other side. There are wooden dowels at most of the joints, with a metal pin on the right side of the seat.

Dating to circa 1770, this is made of oak and originates from the UK.

In generally sturdy condition, this chair has a slight wobble standing to floor, but the joints are not loose. The piece has the patina of age and there is a circular indentation on top of the left arm.
