Description

Artist: Harold Hume Piffard 1876 - 1938

This is just a stunning large watercolour of Joan of Arc. Very well executed in every detail. Fully signed lower left, reframed around 25 years ago, just a stunning example by this prolific artist.

Aviator and artist Harold Hume Piffard was born in India but educated at Lancing College on the South coast of England and was known as Piff to his friends. He exhibited four works at the Royal Academy, two works at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, and several works at Liverpool. On leaving Lancing in 1883, Piffard returned to India and was employed on a Darjeeling tea plantation for a while. He returned to England and endeavoured to pursue a theatrical career and also joined an acrobatic troop. He became a successful portrait painter, going back again to India in 1889. Later, he entered the Royal Academy of Arts as a student, and also studied in Paris.

The images are the best I could achieve due to the reflection off the glass. This may also effect the colours.

Medium: Watercolour
