Description

Hans Holbein the Younger (c.1497/98-1543) at Kensington Palace -

Apologies for the reflections caused when photographing through the glass.

Rare Surviving Original Coloured ENGRAVING by Francesco Bartolozzi, Circa 1798 Under Glass a 18thc gilt wood frame ( not a copied print )

An original stipple engraved portrait by Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815) of Hans Holbein, published by John Chamberlain in 1798.

This original stipple engraving also includes much work done with the rocker and other techniques. Bartolozzi was the portrait engraver par excellence in late 18th century London.

To the lower-left is engraved ''''From the Original Drawing by Hans Holbein'''', so Bartolozzi had copied a self-portrait - possibly the small gouache of Holbein now in the Wallace Collection.
