Description

Pattern 1858 Naval Cutlass . This bayonet/cutlass was the first pattern used by the British Navy for a combined cutlass and bayonet. Its grips are ribbed wood that would have originally been wrapped in leather with four pin fasteners (remaining) , not looking like the later 1859 leather grips. The whole cutlass is showing its age with pitted metalwork (all as photos) but it still retains the robust and heavy feel of a naval cutlass!

Ithe 1858 version is a rare bayonet even in this aged state, particularly given it maritime use.
