Description

A lovely wooden Crusader tank marked with the name and details - Tpr (Trooper) G Dunne 46th RTR POW - and presumably made by him as a POW.
It is made of wood, approximately 250mm long, 100mm wide and 120mm high and painted dark green. The turret turns and the wheels all turn making a squeaking noise!
Metal bits such as screws, have been used for the wheels, and for fittings and the gun barrel, markings and lights have been drawn on. See photos for condition and details.

The 46th RTR (Liverpool and Welsh) was a tank regiment that fought in North Africa, Sicily,Italy and Greece.
In 1942 they took part in three major engagements, second battle of Ruweisat ridge (July 1942) Battle of Alam Halfa (august 1942) and El Alemain ( (October 1942). It seems likely that Trooer Dunne was captured in one of the first two battles, particularly Ruweisat ridge where the 46th had severe losses.
An authentic piece I think, presumably made by Trooper Dunne in his POW camp.Worthy of further research.
