Description

A 19th Century French Mahogany and Parquetry Inlaid Bureau Plat or Writing Table.

A lovely table that has been executed in the Louis XVI classical style with outscrolling corners supported by pilasters that merge in to the front legs via fine ormolu mounts. The overhanging top has several finely carved edge mouldings. The drawer configuration, with one central long drawer and two small drawers to the left and one drawer to the right imitating two drawers, is classic and well balanced. Each of the drawer fronts is inlaid with fine parquetry decoration, patterns of overlapping diamonds being created. The sides of the table are panelled with parquetry and the legs are ornamented with deep fluting and they end in the original sabots or foot mounts. The drawers have oak linings of fine quality. Some of the drawers have fitted internal dividers.

The top of the piece has an inlaid leather surface with tooled edge. The table is also equipped with two pull out writing slides. Finished all round to enable it to be freestanding.
