Description

A museum quality example of a coin operated Symphonion style 25 victorian musical box dating from 1897. It plays two revolutions of the steel discs which are 30cm in diameter. It operates on the insertion of a penny This type of box would have been situated in a public place such as a bar, hotel or railway station. The machine has been fully overhauled yet retains its period authenticity with lovely patination of the wood and brass fittings. All components are original. The sublime harmony combs are in perfect condition and free from damage or restoration as are the dampers and brakes. Featuring a clockwork motor, twin musical combs and original cabinetry including a decorative pediment and glass fronted door with the trademark Symphonion lithograph of Putti. The case is walnut with an oak interior. The coin mechanism triggers the music and deposits the penny in a lockable drawer accessible with a key from the interior. The main cabinet door is lockable and keys are provided. The musical arrangements are excellent from the sublime harmony combs. Ten original discs are supplied and more are available if required.
