Description

An 8 day 13” painted dial with flowers in the corners and a scene in the arch of a young lady.

The quality Oak case with Mahogany hood columns and trunk quarter columns, veneers to the hood and case , cross banding to the trunk door and hood. The arched long door in the Gillows style was a popular feature on Kendal and Lancaster clocks.

The Newby's had premises in Stricklandgate. In the 1787 census there was mention of seven in the family, there was was father William and his wife, sons William, James.
There was a Christopher Newby who was apprenticed to Gillows who later made clock cases in Kendal.
