Description

A lovely quality rocking ship mahogany longcase clock of smaller proportions. A swan-neck pediment with a central brass finial. Brass capped, fluted hood columns. A wavy hood door top and fine inlays to the flame mahogany case. An arched painted dial with a rocking ship 'automaton' with port scenes. A seconds dial and date dial and floral dial corners. Brass hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1850.

George Claridge of Chepstow is recorded in Peates 'Clock and watchmakers in Wales' book as working from 1848-1871.
