Kadensek and Ward

Description

Superb solid mahogany coal box by Benham & Froud, with its zinc/tin bucket liner. With excellent quality decorative brass work cleaned and polished. The item is in very good condition but shows some wear related to age and use. This box is a design attributed to Dr. Christoper Dresser, an influential designer and exponent of art furniture and furnishings. We would date this to around 1880.
Note a very similar item appears in 'The Gothic Reform' exhibition November 2004 page 29, held by The Millinery Works, London.
The coppered shovel is not original to this box but is old.
