Description

A good late C19th Japanese Meiji period lacqueredJ shodana cabinet. The black lacquer and gold splashed ground having very decorative raised lacquer with birds in flight and bamboo all in gilded gold and brown. The decorated top having typical shaped ends with white and copper metal adornments and decorated with pheasants and peach trees. Below are 2 drawers with white metal birds forming the handles. The right hand side having 4 drawers all with cloud shaped white metal handles and bamboo decoration. The left hand side having a similarly decorated door which opens to reveal a lacquered interior with swallows, storks and flowering bamboo with 1 large and 1 small shelf above a drawer with a wider drawer below and again with conforming handles. Below is a full width deep drawer with conforming metal work to the corners and centre and the whole stands and a shaped base with further decorative gilding which is worn in parts.
