A good quality early Victorian freestanding slide top davenport. A particularly unusual model being constructed from figured walnut and not the usual mahogany or rosewood. The top having a turned gallery and a concealed lid which is accessed from inside via a brass pin and lifts to reveal a well fitted stationary compartment complete with ink pot. The fall has a replaced hand dyed leather writing surface with blind & gold tooling. The davenport top slides forward to create a kneehole, the lower section having a panelled walnut front flanked by applied square pillars with carved capitals and conforming back. To the right hand side are graduated four drawers with turned pulls, the left side with conforming dummy drawers. The whole raised on inverted breakfront plinth with hidden casters.
