Description

This Victorian teak brass bound military trunk would have been made in the 2nd half of the 19thc.
It is made of teak, a timber that can withstand the demands of the heat of the East, as well as being resistant to sea water.
It was originally made for a British officer to take store his valuables on his journeys around the British Empire, whether it be by land or sailing ship.
This chest has large flush brass inset corners to add strength for its use.
The solid teak lid opens to reveal storage space as well as an open compartment that has an interesting sliding side that opens to reveal secret drawers. The lids interior hinges were made by a blacksmith into a decorative design.
Imagine the stories this could tell! and all the conversation your family and friends will strike up as you ponder what escapades this has been through in its long life. Was its owner at Omdurman, the North West Frontier, or even used at the Chinese Boxer rebellion?
