Description

A Louis XV Gilded Fauteuil / Armchair
A genuine Louis XV Fauteuil armchair dating from about 1760.
A beautiful chair all with its unrestored water gilding in place. Delicately carved walnut frame also in un-damaged un-restored state.
The gilding naturally is worn showing the red bole underneath…yet none of the gesso ground is chipped off. Currently upholstered in an ivory damask.. the seat rails have had extra pieces of beech added to enable the upholsterer a more substantial fix. Obviously the chair has been upholstered many times yet the frame is all sound.
A true antique from an era of superb french furniture design and still usable.
