Description

A stunning Venetian walnut grotto stool, c.1890.

The stool seat is in the form of a scallop shell which sits atop four serpentine carved legs joined by scrolling X frame stretchers which unite at a finely carved foliate centrepiece.

There is an historic repair to the top right of the shell which is almost invisible when viewed from the front but is evident upon close inspection from the back (please see photographs). There are some minor losses to the shell extremities in areas but generally the stool remains in an attractive condition, remaining strong and being of great colour.
