Description

A late Victorian country house personal grooming stand constructed in solid, richly patinated English oak. The top is enclosed by a three-quarter, elegantly scrolled gallery with a small raised shelf to the rear, all above a single frieze drawer and raised on finely turned legs, terminating in the original Cope & Collinson brass cup castors, a clear mark of the stand's superior quality.

A finely made provincial piece, designed for use in a gentleman’s dressing room or private bedroom. The construction is precise and neatly executed, embodying a refined Country House Aesthetic typical of the better-quality auxiliary furniture commissioned for large houses in the late nineteenth century.

Conveniently proportioned and particularly aesthetically pleasing with its shapely form and golden oak finish. Authentic as a personal grooming station, it also functions beautifully as a refined accent table in a hallway or drawing-room, a unique small writing / laptop table, or a characterful console where space is at a premium.

Presented in very good antique condition with a deep, warm, even patina and surface marks consistent with genuine age and domestic use. The top retains its authentic, aged finish and character, which has been deliberately preserved rather than stripped to ensure historical integrity. Structurally solid, clean and ready to place in the home.

English, circa 1880.
