WWI Trench Art Brass Shell Case Lidded Pot (Tobacco Jar?).
The pot has a lovely hand engraved floral theme decoration in tiny dots on the sides and on the lid, which would have been done by a soldier in the trenches using a sharp pointed tool.The pot also has "1917" engraved on the side.
The bottom has military markings including "17" for 1917, also marked "F.ATKINS"- possibly the name of the person who made the jar.
Originally made for use as a tobacco jar, now can be used for storing items or for display.
Very heavy item - weights almost a kilogram.
This item is available to view at the Red House Antiques Centre in York.
