A Handsome C. Early 17th Antique Carved Oak Dowry Chest / CofferMeasuring approximately 51" x 26 1/2" x 22 1/2"(width, height, depth)
Charles 1st period piece (1629-40) with 3 fielded panel lid, beautiful Guilloche carving to frieze / stile fronts and strapwork carving to muntins.
Original iron hinges and lock present.
The coffer is in very good antique condition with rich dark oak patina throughout. The back panels and base boards are original and free from any damage....long since gone worm evidence is visible mainly to lower stiles. A couple of old (and quite lovely) blacksmith strengthening repairs to base and backboards
The coffer retains 2 corresponding museum exhibition stickers reading 'The Field Collection' 1924
