Large 18th Century carved wooden Mater Dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrows) religious statue.Probably Alpine, carved wood, polychromed and coloured or gold-bronzed.
Depicting Mary as a full figure in the type of the sorrowful mother whose heart is pierced by a dagger, symbolising her agony of lifelong sorrow for her son.
Lovely aged condition with the paint loss adding to the atmospheric character of the statue.
Condition appropriate to age.
H: 95cm / W: 35cm / D: 32cm.
