Singer c.1930 Cast Iron & Pine Machinists Stool

Photos

Description

The Singer factory stool comprising of a swivel height adjustment circular lacquered pine top over a later black painted industrial cast iron tripod base, survives from second quarter of the twentieth century.

The top remains in good condition as does the iron support, which shows oxidization and wear to the paint commensurate with age. The cast iron base still adjusts with the turning nut. There is some slight peel to the lacquer and one or two old worm holes.

Useful, practical, edgy and timeless are all words that express what industrial furniture has come to mean and like traditional antiques they improve with age and the distress that comes hand in hand with their daily use.

Wonderfully understated.
